During extrusion, a side fold – or gusset – is added to the blown film. During production, it also receives a perforation that makes it easy to tear the individual side gusset bags off the roll. All that is left is for it to be filled or unfolded to line a box or crate. When filled, the bag is sturdy and can easily stand on a store or warehouse shelf, for example. The side gusset bag is best suited for relatively low filling quantities; larger side gusset sacks are often chosen for large filling volumes.
